Growing Up Female Bibliography

As part of a joint program of our university and the city public schools, I am leading a seminar for middle and high school teachers in the spring on "Growing Up Female in Life and Literature." This course will focus on the American scene from the seventeenth century to the present (though not, of course, exhaustively) and will consider stories of the female life cycle, in its entirety or in particular phases. Works of both fiction and nonfiction(biography, autobiography, diaries, letters) will be included, and I want to use fiction writing for children and young adults as well as adult fiction.

I am familiar with the standard historical works on American women's history, and I some ideas about biographies and fiction dealing with white women, and to a lesser extent with African-American women. While I would welcome any suggestions, I am in particular need of suggestions about Native American and Latina women---bios, autobios, novels or short stories, including those written for children. Thanks for your help.
