WELCOME TO H-SOUTH!
H-South is an electronic discussion group dedicated to the
scholarly exploration of southern history; its
transformations, its re-interpretations, and its meanings.
Electronic communication is an ideal venue for scholars to
exchange ideas and insights concerning their research and to
discuss issues related to teaching southern history. H-
South can serve as a forum where one can explore and discuss
new approaches, methods, and tools of analysis, test new
ideas, and share comments on current historiography. While
established primarily to serve the interests of the
historical profession, H-South is open to everyone.
Consequently, H-South can enable historians to disseminate
current praxis to a wider audience and encourage dialogue
with others interested in southern history. In the many and
varied exchanges on H-South, we hope that the horizons and
boundaries of researching, teaching, writing, and thinking
about southern history will expand.
The one, overriding rule for discussion on H-South is to be
cordial, civil, and tolerant. Messages of a personal nature
and those containing inflammatory or insulting language are
not appropriate for the list. Ideas can and will be
discussed freely and openly on H-South, but personal attacks
and invective will not be tolerated. The editors reserve the right
to edit or decline any post that contains adhominem attacks.
Subscribers may appeal to the Editorial Board, whose decision is final.
Normally messages submitted to H-South will be disseminated
to the list in a timely fashion. In some cases the editors
may decide to hold a message for a time if the list is too
busy or focusing on a different issue. In other cases a
message may be posted with other contributions of a similar
theme. Messages that do not pertain to teaching and writing
southern history will be posted to the list at the editors'
discretion. Advocacy messages and commercial appeals of one
kind or another will not be posted to H-South.
FEATURES OF H-SOUTH:
