Hello Minerva,
Linda has told me that she believes that a very large number of military personnel or the spouses of military personnel grew up in the service - that is are military brats - though the military can't tell us how many. I wonder if there are members who want to discuss the pros and cons of growing up in the military - especially for adolescent girls. Or the trauma of raising adolescent girls in the military. I rember one brat girl I dated who had matured very young and was fully developed at 13 when she was in Germany. (This was in 1959-60.) The GI's were most interested in her and it appeared to affect her behavior patterns for as long as I knew her.
I'd also like any brat member to know that there is a new (two years old) organization for military brats - Military Brats of America. You can find out more about it by e-mailing me directly or e-mail BratNews@aol.com or on CompuServe at BRATS at the Prompt "GO".

I recommend Mary Edwards Wertsch's book of the same name, which is a great study of men and women who grew up in the service.

I forwarded the comment to Mary who is one of the co-ordinators of Operation Footlocker of Military Brats of America. The other two are Reta Nicholson and myself. I'm reading the book right now.
