HOLDINGS
Contents/Subjects/Collections: Fondo Colonial cover mostly 18th
century and up to 1821; Fondo Siglo XIX is general 19th century;
Decretos; Jefatura Politica de Bexar which contains Texas material from
1824 to 1836; Archivo Muncipal de Monclova (originals) and Archivo
Municipal de Guerrero (photocopies). The archive is also now actively
collecting 20th-century records from various state agencies.
Catalogues/Finding Aids: Indexing is an ongoing process. The
colonial
period material has been indexed along with a large portion of the
Siglo XIX material. Searches of these and the catalogues from the
Archivo Municipal de Saltillo may be searched on their computer database.
It is an excellent tool. Within the year they hope to offer a set of
four CD-ROMs containing the scanned images of all the Fondo Colonial
material and the database.
Procedures for Requesting Documents: Standard forms to be filled
out.
Will do Searches Requested by Mail: Contacts by telephone work
best.
They will run a search and contact researcher about results.

a) Facilities (self-service or not): No self-service
b) Cost: Approximately 50 centavos per page, depending on
quantity
Microfilm: They are by-passing microfilm in favor of electronic
imaging. Researchers would probably have no trouble obtaining permission
to microfilm.
FACILITIES
Research Room
a) Facilities: The Instituto only moved into the building about three
years ago, and they have hopes of moving to a better facility in the
future. The research area consists of the central hallway, where work
surfaces in front of large windows make for interesting conditions,
depending on sun and wind.
b) Rules: Usually three expedientes at a time.
c) Staff: Number of full and part-timers varies with time of day and
day of week, but there is usually at least one individual
knowledgeable about stacks to assist patrons.
