     The Society for the History of Children and Youth invites participants to its Bi-Annual Conference, June 26-29, 2003. This year's theme is "Childhood and the State--The State of Childhood." The meeting will be held at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Baltimore, Maryland. The campus is conveniently located near Baltimore-Washington International Airport, just off Interstate I-95, about 30 miles north of Washington, D.C. (Directions and Visitors' Guide). UMBC is a short taxi cab ride from the airport. Taxis are readily available at the airport. The BWI AMTRAK station is also close to UMBC. Taxis are also readily available at that location.

The conference begins on Thursday, June 26th. Dormitory check-in is available 24 hours a day at Erickson Hall. Conference registration opens at 3:00 pm on Thursday with the first sessions from 4:00 pm -6:00 pm. A dinner and special presentation in honor of Robert H. Bremner will start at approximately 6:00 pm that evening.  Friday and Saturday feature a light breakfast, lunch, and panel sessions from 9:30 am to 5:15 pm. There will be a light breakfast available on Sunday morning. All breakfasts and lunches will be served near the panel session rooms. The formal conference dinner and keynote address by Professor Michael Grossberg are scheduled for Friday evening beginning about 6:00 pm. The SHCY business meeting is schedule for late Saturday afternoon. There are two panel sessions on Sunday morning with the conference closing at 12:30 pm. All events will take place on the UMBC campus. Conference registration includes a free roundtrip bus ticket to downtown Baltimore on Saturday evening for anyone interested in having dinner or sightseeing at the city's Inner Harbor. Buses will leave the campus at approximately 6:45 pm and return at 10:30 pm.

Conference registration includes most meals (excluding only Saturday night dinner). The closest hotel accommodations are located near the BWI airport (about a 10 minute drive) or in downtown Baltimore (about a 20 minute drive). Parking on the campus is free during the summer.
