Cervantes, official organ of the Cervantes Society of America, publishes scholarly articles in English and Spanish on Cervantes' life and works, reviews and notes of interest to cervantistas. Twice yearly. Subscription to Cervantes is a part of membership in the Cervantes Society of America, which also publishes a Newsletter. $20.00 a year for individuals, $40.00 for institutions, $30.00 for couples, and $10.00 for students. Membership is open to all persons interested in Cervantes. 			“El curioso impertinente” está dividido en dos partes casi iguales. La primera la dominan los varones Anselmo y Lotario, y en su discurso figuran análisis, razones y argumento. No se oye la voz de Camila. Todo cambia a partir de la frase “Rindiose Camila; Camila se rindió,” que aparece al centro de la narración. Después el enfoque pasa a ser femenino. Oímos a Camila y Leonela, en cuya conversación hay narración, intimidad y humor. Camila ya habla más que los hombres, controla la acción y con maestría trama la escena climáctica en la cual finge suicidarse para así manipular a su marido voyeur y a su amante atónito.
	Auctoritas y experiencia en “El curioso impertinente”

			This article offers a new interpretation of “El curioso impertinente,” examining the discussion of Anselmo and Lotario as a medieval “debate” in dialogue form. Taking into consideration the key concept of curiositas, the article analyzes how this notion unfolds into yet another medieval literary topos: the opposition of knowledge obtained from the auctoritas of the classics (represented here by Lotario) to that derived from experience (Anselmo). The analysis of “El curioso” from this perspective reveals closer connections between it and the plot of Part I of Don Quijote, as well as the work's theme of “knowledge.” The article thus provides further support for the “pertinence” of this “impertinent” story.
	La Señora Peregrina as Mediatrix in “La ilustre fregona”

			Este estudio focaliza la lectura de “La ilustra fregona” en el personaje de la madre de Costanza, referida en la historia como “La Señora Peregrina” (secularización de la advocación de “Nuestra Señora Peregrina”). Es ella la que moviliza los eventos más significativos que llevan a la redención y reestabilización de la familia Carriazo. Es ella la verdadera heroína de la novela, y no su hija Costanza. El rol de Costanza (hasta el desenlace) es más bien metonímico, ya que encarna alegóricamente la figura de su madre, a la par de imágenes sagradas de altares marianos que simbólicamente representan a la madre de Jesucristo, a la mediatriz.

			The Cushing Memorial Library at Texas A&M University houses the Proyecto Cervantes' collection of over 450 illustrated Quijotes and related works, from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries. There are over 15,000 illustrations. These are available online, accompanied by powerful searching tools, as part of the Proyecto Cervantes' hypertextual archive. This permits more accurate and comprehensive study of them than ever before.
	Cervantes sabía que Pasamonte fue Avellaneda: La Vida de Pasamonte, el Quijote apócrifo y “El coloquio de los perros”

			Cervantes knew that the author of Avellaneda's Don Quijote was the soldier Jerónimo de Pasamonte, born in Aragon. In addition, he had access to the manuscript of Avellaneda's continuation before writing “El coloquio de los perros.” In his novela ejemplar there are numerous allusions to and quotes from both Avellaneda's Don Quijote and Pasamonte's Vida.
