What about the other great '60s working-class hero movie out of the
Sillitoe stable: "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning" (a superb evocation
of Nottingham life in the period)? "The L-Shaped Room" isn't bad either; and
going further forward, "The Ploughman's Lunch" is a beautiful, true and cold
dissection of the Thatcher era.
