For films, might I recommend two extreme works for the 1980s?
THREADS is a bitter, unrelenting and unsentimental look at the
aftermath of nuclear war. Not only is it a fine film, but it embodies
many of the issues of the antinuclear movement at the time, as well as
some odd glances at domesticity.
THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE, AND HER LOVER does double duty as
an attack on Thatcher and a peek at the UK avantgarde art scene.
