I am scheduled to do a course on post-1939 Europe next semester. My
students have expressed a desire to continue reading novels as a source
of history. For example, this semester I used Orwell's "Keep the
Aspidistra Flying" which they enjoyed very much.

1) Can anyone recommend a good novel for post-1939 Great Britain?
Perhaps something about either the 1960s London scene or the growing IRA
activity in the 1960s and after? Could recommendations please include
some description of the novel including the date of publication to help
me in my decision?

2) Are there any good films I could show? I already noted the
recommendation for Passport to Pimlico!

Thanks!
