I have just checked the price of my first pb edition of Foster and
Sheppard, British Archives (1984): Macmillan asked #9.95. I received a
flyer a few days ago from Stockton offering the 3rd (?) edition for $160. If
we were to consider the 1984 price as about the equivalent of $16, we are
faced with a 1000% price increase over a ten year period. Even with all
of the improvements, etc in this latest edition, this is an
unwarranted and unconscionable price increase. I for one am reluctant to
suggest it to my library much less purchase it myself. We can't
encourage these people (the publishers not the authors).
