I reviewed Magner's book last year (for _Isis_), and did not think it was
very good. Peter Bowler (Belfast) has written several highly accessible
works on evolution which I would recommend instead. Yes, I am a
historian of science, distressed that so little of our work seems to
filter into the consciousness of other historians.
