PART-TIME TEACHING POSITION (One 3-credit course): GENDER, RACE, AND CLASS – Fall 2004 AT THE CORCORAN COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN The Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington DC, the only accredited BFA-granting art school in the nation’s capital, seeks an adjunct instructor Fall semester 2004 for the interdisciplinary undergraduate course: AS365 Gender, Race, and Class The U.S. is driven by three ideologies when it comes to immigration and population: assimilation, melting pot, and multiculturalism. Within these theories, we also have subscribed, in differing degrees, to Eurocentricity, patriarchy, capitalism, prejudice, racism, sexism, and classism. Participants in this seminar explore the contemporary status of these issues and others, through discussion and research of topics such as reservation life for Native Americans, same-sex marriage, the history of affirmative action, and the white supremacy movement. The course offers some historical perspectives to create a better context for understanding the problems and progress in gender, race, and class issues in America today. Scheduled: Tues 7:00-10:00 pm 9/7/04-12/14/04 This is a great opportunity for a scholar-teacher interested in the power of social, political and historical knowledge to inform and affect a new generation of artists and designers. The Corcoran features small classes, a diverse international body of talented students, and a warm, supportive style among teaching peers. We encourage active and innovative learning methods and use of Washington’s unique resources, including group exercises and site visits. No previous college-level work in history, political science, social theory or sociology should be assumed among students. Stipend is competitive with local colleges. Candidates with teaching experience and graduate degrees or PhD in progress in relevant fields should send a brief statement of interest and curriculum vitae, with previous course syllabi if possible, by APRIL 30 via email to Bernard Welt or by fax. All phone inquiries directed to Bernard Welt will be answered promptly. PLEASE POST AND SHARE AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE IN WASHINGTON AREA. |
