Social Identities: Journal for the Study of Race, Nation and Culture

The Editors are pleased to announce a special issue of Social Identities devoted to exploring the hidden and explicit ways racial ideology is embedded in the performative practices of architecture. We are looking for manuscripts that examine vexed and often unspoken ways in which notions of race and identity are inscribed in the discourse of architecture and architectural practices as well as in shaping the built environment.

Social Identities is a leading academic journal devoted to examining changes concerning social identities such as race, nation and ethnicity, as well as the emergence of new forms of racism and nationalism as discriminatory exclusions. Social Identities aims to furnish an interdisciplinary and international focal point for theorizing issues at the interface of social identities.

The journal is especially concerned to address these issues in the context of the transforming political economies and cultures of postmodern and postcolonial conditions. Social Identities is intended as a forum for contesting ideas and debates concerning the formations of, and transformations in, socially significant identities, their attendant forms of material exclusion and power, as well as the political and cultural possibilities opened up by these identifications

Three complete copies of each manuscript should be submitted. They should be typed on one side of the paper, double spaced, with ample margins, and bear the title of the contribution and name(s) of the author(s), along with a copy on 3.5 inch disk in ASCII text, WordPerfect, Word for DOS, Word for Windows, Microsoft Word or RTF format. The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence should also be included. All pages should be numbered.
