QUEERING COMICS
Comic books and comic strips are among the most iconic of art forms, and therefore the most queerable. Scholarly articles are invited for an anthology, "Queering Comics," edited by Dr. Jeffery Dennis. Contributions may explore depictions of same-sex desire, gender transgressions, glbt characters and themes, glbt cartoonists, and the intersection of sexuality with gender, race, and class. Potential texts may include:
- Classic or contemporary newspaper comics: Krazy Kat, Little Nemo, Popeye, Peanuts, B.C., The Wizard of Id, Doonesbury
- Comic book superheroes: Superman, Batman, The Green Latern, The Justice League of America
- Children's comics: Donald Duck, Casper, Archie
- Gay comix: The Meatman series, Jayson, Dykes to Watch Out For, Hothead Paysan
- Graphic novels and anime.
Submissions should be 15-25 pages and use MLA format. Send abstracts or submissions via email attachments by February 15, 2003.
