Arcadia Publishing is currently searching for qualified writers and historians to join with us in an exciting publishing venture to document America's epic story. Following the nationwide success of our town-by-town pictorial history series, Images of America, Arcadia has developed a list of narrative-based books featuring the history of towns and cities around the country. Books in the new Making of America series contain a comprehensive, chronological history of a specific community's development over the centuries, highlighting major events, such as the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the Great Depression and the impact they had on its citizens and landscape. The narrative consists of roughly 45,000 to 55,000 words and is accompanied by 120 historic and relevant images (photographs, postcards, sketches, advertisements, maps, etc). These books strive to be both highly readable and highly visual. Since the series's launch in 2000, Arcadia has published more than 40 titles on towns around the country, including histories of such communities as Detroit, MI; Warwick, RI; Durham, NC; Troy, NY; Tallahassee, FL; Salem, OH; Paducah, KY; and many more.
