A Summer Institute for Educators
Living and Working in the Miami Valley, 1890-1945

The Nearby History Institute will focus on integrating local
history resources and historical research across the K-12 social
studies and language arts curriculum.
The institute will highlight connections
between local, state, and national history. This course brings
public historians from area archives and museums
together with faculty from the Dayton Public Schools and
Wright State University.
Class will visit the Paul Laurence Dunbar Historic Site, the
Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historic Park, the National
Afro American Museum, and the Montgomery County Historical
Society Regional Research Center. This is great preparation
for National History Day projects.
Application and Tuition Information
The Institute is open to 25 participants. Workshop
participants will have the option of registering for 2 or 4
graduate credit hours in either History or Education.
Participant must apply for non-degree graduate status through
the Graduate School. Half of the cost of tuition for Ohio
teachers is subsidized by support from the Ohio Humanities
Council and the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation.
